The process of converting the old system

METHODS:-
(a)
Parallel systems:
Running both systems in parallel is the most protected method of converting

normal way, but they also start utilising the new system. This method is the
most secured one. This is because it makes sure that if any problem occurs in
using the new system, the organisation can still move to the old system without
loss of time and money.
The disadvantages of parallel systems

Direct conversion: Direct
conversion method is switching over directly to the new system, on the
appointed date and time. At times, it happens over a weekend or even overnight.
The old system is used in anticipation of a planned conversion day, when it is
substituted by the new system. No parallel activities are included. The
organisation totally depends on the new system. The major drawbacks of this
approach are: on occurrence of difficulties with the new system, no other system
can be used. Secondly, sensible and
cautious planning is needed.

Pilot system: Pilot
approach is frequently chosen in the case of the new system, which involves new
methods or some severe changes in organisation performance. Here, a running
version of the system is implemented in one part of the organisation, like a
single work area or department. The users are familiar with that they are
piloting a new system. Also they know that they can make changes to improve the
system. Changes are made according to the feedback. The Pilot System method
offers experience and live test prior to implementation.

Phase-in method: When it
is not possible to set up a new system in an organisation at the same time,
phase-in method is used. It permits some users to take benefit of the new
system before time. Also it permits training and installation without needless
utilisation of resources.
